Two students at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have tackled this exciting challenge. Philipp Brunotte and Áron Németh have delved deep into the evolution of sustainable e-mobility. The duo have integrated a logistics cycle into their solution that aims to fundamentally simplify the process of recycling old or defective batteries. “The beating heart of this transportation solution is a box that we have developed,” said LiBCycle Managing Director Philipp Brunotte. “It allows us to transport almost all common battery models quickly, safely and securely.” The logistics expertise and network of potential users come from inTime Express Logistik GmbH, which holds a majority stake in the Bavarian start-up firm. “We found the young people’s idea compelling,” explained Gerd Röttger, Managing Director of inTime. “It dovetails seamlessly with our experience with agile logistics for the automotive industry. Together, we can expand our service offering for customers, particularly in the dangerous goods transportation segment.” inTime already transports batteries based on dangerous goods regulations. When it combines its services with the ideas developed by the young LiBCycle entrepreneurs, the logistics service provider will be able to offer comprehensive end-to-end solutions. “Manufacturing users will no longer have to fret over transportation but can focus on their core business. That includes driving the evolution of innovative battery technologies and the vehicles that use them,” said Brunotte as he explained one key advantage of his firm’s idea. He and Németh have started to develop an IT platform that allows users and manufacturers of electric vehicles to track a battery’s status and location and streamlines the entire battery recycling supply chain. “We want to be a one-stop shop for everything our customers need, from providing the transportation box to the logistics to automatically determining the destination,” continued Brunotte. “Providing visibility into the entire supply chain is essential. Only then can we contribute to our customers’ bottom line – because our solution saves them money,” noted Röttger.
