Young talents wanted: The future of the logistics industry

    22.05.23

How can the shortage of skilled workers in logistics be tackled? The industry has been facing an increasing shortage of new recruits in all areas of business for several years. To address this challenge, targeted development of young talent is needed, as the industry needs highly qualified professionals with broad knowledge and practical experience to continue offering innovative solutions and services in the future. That's why inTime actively advocates for promoting young talent, but what does this actually mean?

    Young talent promotion at inTime

At inTime, the development of young talent encompasses all measures aimed at attracting, qualifying, and developing professionals and leaders. The company is not only focused on identifying potential young talents but also on nurturing and preparing them for their future roles. In this context, young people are introduced to various career opportunities and fields in the logistics industry in order to ignite their interest in different areas of work. It is important to emphasise the significance of the industry for the economy and society to raise awareness about the relevance of logistics. In addition to internal training, education and development programmes, inTime participates in the initiative "Logistik macht Schule” (Logistics in Schools) and collaborates with other logistics companies to introduce students to the industry in a playful manner.

    Future Day 2023

The so-called “Future Day”, which took place on the 27th of April at the company’s headquarters in Hannover, is also an important measure for inTime's promotion of young talent. Twenty students between the ages of 11 and 16 were invited to gain first insights into the practical aspects of the logistics industry. During the Future Day, the students were shown the company's building, warehouse, and premises, and took part in various activities. The students were able to expand their knowledge of geography and logistics in a playful way by, for example, guessing federal states or stacking pallets. Furthermore, they had the opportunity to explore different departments during a rally through the building and asking employees questions. The practical insights into various vehicles and machinery used in the logistics industry also proved interesting. The children were allowed to navigate a course with a pallet truck or have a look inside a forklift and a truck. This not only deepened their technical understanding but also allowed them to learn about the requirements placed on professional drivers.

For inTime, the Future Day represents an opportunity to present themselves as an attractive future employer and attract potential young talents. The Future Day actively contributes to strategic talent development with the overall goal of ensuring the long-term availability of qualified and motivated specialists and managers within the company.
