Haiti is still struggling with the effects of the major earthquake six years ago and now Hurricane "Matthew" has exacerbated the situation. The storm has been a catastrophe for destitute Haiti: Many of the areas affected on the Caribbean island are still unreachable for rescue services. According to estimates, at least 1,000 people lost their lives and 10,000 have been left homeless by the disaster. The hurricane hit this extremely poor island particularly hard and around half of the population of 11 million has been affected by the devastation that Hurricane Matthew brought with it.
IN tIME has decided to make a donation to the Wirtschaft für Menschen charity. The donation is then passed on to Malteser International, who are working on the island.
The projects by Malteser International in Haiti are focused on the slums of Cité Soleil and Tabarre as well as the rural region of Belle-Anse, and are carried out in close cooperation with local partners.
